Twitter Trend #1: 280 characters instead of 140
In early 2018, Twitter announced that they were testing out allowing users to post 280 characters instead of 140. This was a direct response to their struggling growth rates and stagnant user count. Twitter has been trying out different changes in hopes of reviving its declining platform. And, although some users are still upset about having to use more characters for their tweets, it seems like most people have accepted or forgotten about it. As of September 2018, all short-form posts still only allow 140 characters instead of 280.
Twitter Trend #2: The return of anonymous accounts
When Twitter first launched in 2006, people couldn’t understand how an anonymous username would help users share their messages. More than a decade later, however, people realize that anonymity gives them more freedom to share their ideas without fear of retaliation from other users. In 2022, we’ll likely see anonymous accounts make a comeback. When companies see that they can provide valuable content while remaining mostly or completely anonymous, they will be more inclined to share quality information on social media sites.
